M+M's Caterer is Juan Carlo

Before Club Balai Isabel allowed us to have an "outside" supplier to provide catering services for our wedding, we were set on getting their wedding package, which includes food and reception details, and discounts for the use of venue. Two or three months later, we finally persuaded them to have one of their accredited suppliers, which is Juan Carlo to be our catering provider.

The biggest part of our budget went to Juan Carlo. And that means we really did expect a lot from this supplier.

We were requested to provide feedback on their food, services, styling, etc. Except for the food, I gave them very satisfactory rating. For some reason, Mike and I didn't have the appetite as we used to during our reception. Our menu included the following:
  • Appetizers (Nachos with Cheese Cream Dip / Bruschettas with Cheese, Tomato and Basil)
  • Salad Bar (Assorted greens, cucumber, tomato, white onion rings, corn kernels)
  • Main Course (Italian Beef Rolls / Hongkong Style Chicken in Oyster Sauce /Roast Pork with Prunes and Walnuts / Vegetable Tempura in Hon Mirin Sauce / Norwegian Pink Salmon with Tequila Cream Sauce)
  • Carving Station (Pork Lechon)
  • Pasta (Juan Carlo Vermicelli Special /Penne Carbonara with Bacon / Lasagna with Bechamel Sauce)
  • Rice (Morrocan Rice / Plain Steamed Rice)
  • Dessert Bar (Leche flan / Pandan panacotta / Assorted pastries)
  • Drinks (Free-flowing water and soda)

We didn't hear negative remarks from our guests on the food. My aunt who does catering services also, commended their salmon dish, and so did my mom. On the other hands, I personally think that JC should quit serving the lasagna dish.

We got a bunch of freebies upon booking such as centerpiece upgrade, couple's table setup upgrade,  additional dessert selection, etc. We chose to offset the cost for the centerpiece and backdrop upgrade because we hired a separate supplier for the reception flowers.

Aside from catering, Juan Carlo also took care of our ceremony setup and flowers. My complaint was that the carpet was not long enough for the ceremony. But our basic driftwood backdrop was so pretty against the Taal lake and the volcano islands, with the blue and orange flowers.

Perhaps the most prudent decision we made days before our big day was to setup tents. During the last few days before our wedding day, the weather was so uncooperative, and I was so stressed about it. Good thing is Juan Carlo found a tent supplier for us and they began setting up the tent the night before the wedding.

JC without a doubt provided us impeccable customer service through Al Espina who handled our account the moment we booked. He's very easy to communicate with. Whether it be email or text message, I always got timely response. We had numerous change requests to which he obliged. If there's one person who I'll award the best performer course of our wedding preps, it just had to be him.

Verdict:
There were little highs and lows but overall, Juan Carlo exceeded our expectations :-)
